Fierce Conversations: How to Strategically Manage Dental Practice Conflicts

FIERCE CONVERSATIONS:  HOW TO STRATEGICALLY MANAGE DENTAL PRACTICE CONFLICTS

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2021

9:30AM – 1:00PM

CATEGORY 3 – 3 CE POINTS

Course Outline:

Conflict happens. It is inevitable. It is going to happen whenever you have people with different expectations or views. If ignored or handled badly, conflict can devastate a dental practice, patient relationships, or a team like a wildfire. If handled early and effectively, relationships and dental office culture will be enriched. This makes conflict management critical – it takes skill to effectively avoid arguments, clarify misunderstandings, deal with disputes, and repair relationships. Simply put – conflicts require fierce conversations.

Conflict can be avoided if steps are taken early in a discussion to diffuse anger and facilitate communication.  Furthermore, by applying a series of thoughtful steps and tools, most dental practice conflicts can be resolved effectively.  Critical to success is learning how to engage early, using skills to resolve the conflict and avoid escalation. The focus of this lecture is on providing dental professionals with tools for approaching and resolving disputes in the early stages, before they become full-blown conflicts. Participants will learn how to assess the situation early, maturely and how to change the context of the conversation.

Learning Objectives:
This workshop helps leaders use fierce conversations to take the initiative to confront the problem. Critical to conflict management, participants will develop strategies for changing the context of conflicts from negative to positive, from disrespectful to appropriate. Participants will learn how to turn a disagreement into an opportunity to provoke learning and enrich relationships. Lastly, the workshop will cover how to create lasting solutions to conflict and tips for sticking to them.
