The Ottawa Dental Society (ODS) coordinates an emergency service for patients who are unable to see their regular dentist or who do not have a regular dentist.
The goal of this service is to address emergency symptoms only such as pain relief, tooth abscess, facial swelling, or avulsed (knocked-out) tooth. The on-call dental team requires time to assess your condition and provide a diagnosis and relevant treatment options. There will be a fee for services provided.
Patients are responsible for fees incurred for the diagnosis and treatment they receive.
What should I do when I have a dental emergency?
Please call 613-523-4185 and listen to the recording for the name and number of the dentist on duty. Do not leave a message, hang up and contact the dentist on duty at the number provided in the recording to schedule an appointment. On-call dentists take emergency cases from 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., 7 days a week.
The emergency dental clinics will require the following information from you:
- Proof of identification – name and address
- If you have any dental insurance/coverage or government-subsidized dental programs, please bring all relevant dental insurance/coverage information with you to the appointment.
- Method of payment, such as cash or credit card.
- Relevant medical history, such as current medications and allergies.
